Music from the Heart and Soul

I wrote Behind the Poems to share with you some of the reasons why I wrote the poems. I often wonder about the feelings and emotions that prompt authors and poets to write their creations, so I wanted share with you the experiences and realities that inspired my own writing.

Angels
I think many people don't realize the help and companionship the Angels can give us. I wrote Angels to explain how truly marvelous angels are and to explain how they will help us when we ask.

Celebration of Life
I had a Psychology professor whom I went out with a few times. He was brilliant — very high I.Q. and could expound on psychology for hours. However, his personal life was pretty much a mess. I was trying to tell him how I felt about life and wrote Celebration of Life to explain it.

Freedom to Be
Freedom to Be was written about my divorce. It is about my belief that freedom in a marriage or relationship is vitally important.

The Lesson of the Butterfly
My children's baby books had a page for parents to write what they would tell their children about their philosophy of life. I wrote "Lesson..." to explain what I believe is one of the most important tenets of life. This is my son's and daughter's favorite poem and also my grandson's have told me it's their favorite poem from the CD.

The Goal of Existence
Goal of Existence was written at a time when I had been reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Her philosophy of Objectivism was very thought-provoking. I wrote this poem to explain my thoughts about life.

Time to Dream
When my daughter was a senior in high school, the boy she was dating was in danger of not being able to graduate. I wrote Time to Dream as an encouragement to him of what lies ahead in life.

Path of the Heart
I wrote Path of the Heart to explain what our paths should be. My guides have constantly told me to do what makes my heart sing. I have also seen many times how friends and family discourage people from pursuing their dreams. It is sad to know that sometimes those closest to us are the ones that keep us from achieving all that we can be.

On Being
I wrote On Being at a time when many of the metaphysical books I was reading were saying that we need to learn "To Be." I was trying to define what To Be meant to me.

The Observer
I was at lunch at work one day and some people were talking about their problems. It was a very small room, and I couldn't help but hear what they were saying. I was thinking I could offer some advice but they wouldn't take it. I realized as I sat and watched and listened that "I am an observer." I watch and learn from people's behavior and hope they learn their lessons.

The Survivor
There was a TV show called "The Survivors." As I was watching it, I was thinking "I'm a Survivor." I began thinking of things I had survived, and thus "The Survivor" was written.

Feelings
I wrote Feelings when I was very down, and my feelings had been badly hurt. I was trying to analyze how our feelings affect us.

Doorway of Transition
This poem was written to explain my beliefs about death. Over the years my belief system has changed drastically about life and death. I have come to believe in past lives and reincarnation. This is after much searching through many ideologies.

I Cry the Tears
I Cry the Tears was written one day when I was crying about things that had happened and I was also thinking about many of the heartaches of the past. It was written as a prayer asking for God's solace and asking for His help. In recording the CD, Philip had agreed to do one of the poems and since he is a blues singer I asked him to sing I Cry the Tears. I felt that it would be a powerful way to end the CD.

Musical Interludes - Ndozi and Birds Cryin'
Ndoz is Navajo for Dreams. Both it and Birds Cryin' are from Tommy Osuna's CD Thirdstream. Tommy plays guitar behind all of the poems on the CD, but I also wanted more music on the CD. I picked these two numbers as they are my favorites. And, I feel Birds Cryin' is an appropriate way to end the CD after I Cry the Tears.
