Transitions — Step into my world

"Step into my world and see for a few moments my view, my idea of life." Those are the first words spoken on poet Edwina Brady's debut CD called "Transitions." The CD is a collection of Edwina's moving words of wisdom in the form of poetry set to the soulful serenades of California blues guitarist Tommy Osuna.

Edwina's belief is that the fine art of poetry is not dead, it only should take other forms in our modern times. Her goal is to bring her love of poetry and her spiritual vision of the world to audiences through spoken performances of her poems set to the soothing and soft sounds of Osuna's original guitar music.

Meditative and thoughtful, the meaning and message of each narrative poem stirs the soul; provokes the passions and energizes the emotions of the listener, creating a connection of peace and serenity.

The spoken word performances by Tommy Osuna, Tara Murphy and Victoria Brady deliver the essence of each poem, exploring the depth of feeling of each verse with rhythm, intonation and timing. Osuna's background melodies and instrumental interludes further bring the idyllic words to life.

The content of the poetic series ranges from hopeful messages of perseverance, joy and freedom in everyday life to solemn missives revolving around personal pain and life after death. Light-hearted poems such as "The Lesson of the Butterfly" (selection # 5) playfully teaches life lessons of freedom and bliss and sharply contrasts more dramatic poems such as "The Survivor" (selection #12), which resonates with sheer determination to overcome a life of suffering and sorrow.

The poetic performances culminate into a crescendo of music and song with the soulful rendition of Edwina's poem, "I Cry the Tears" (selection #15) sung by Boston blues singer Philip Pemberton. Philip's passionate performance exposes the raw heartache expressed in the poem's painful plea for solace and peace.

"My goal with Transitions is to make the listener stop, think and examine their own sense of life," says Edwina. "I hope they can find some connection between my words and their own lives and draw upon my experiences to bring even just a glimmer of hope, peace or understanding into their own worlds."
